Our Domestic and commercial consumer units are all installed to the current version of the 18th edition amendment 2 regulations.
Why change to a 18th edition fuse board
Safety
Old fuse will not trip as quick under load conditions as a modern day MCB also the risk of somebody putting the incorrect fuse wire in, thus it has a higher risk of shock and fire to that of a MCB.
The new up to date consumer board will be split load comprising of two RCD thus higher protection to the risk of electric shock.
also we can fit RCBO'S which are a MCB and an RCD in one unit giving greater control as only one circuit will trip and not all of the circuits.
The modern board will also be safer as not all circuits will disconnect at the same time.
By updating your board you will comply with all the changes in the regs that means you can add new circuits without worrying if it complies.
All sockets have to be RCD protected.

Electrical Inspection Conditioning Report or EICR

EICR testing should be done every 10 years max for domestic properties
Landlords letting domestic properties should get an EICR done every 5 years
commercial properties should get an EICR doe every 5 years this includes communal areas in blocks of flats
Part P
In January 2005, Part P of the Building Regulations came into force. These regulations introduced safety standards to electrical installation and maintenance within domestic properties.
This means that, with few exceptions, any electrical work undertaken in your home such as the addition of a new electrical circuit or any work in your bathroom or garden area must be notified to the Local Authority Building Control.
By using a contractor who is registered with a Competent Persons Scheme such as Napit, the contractor will be able to self-certify that the work meets the required standards and that it has been notified to the local authority.
Napit approved contractors have been independently assessed to ensure that they operate to the highest safety standards. If the work you’ve had done is affected by Part P, your contractor will notify Napit of the job done and you will receive a building compliance certificate from Napit so that you know that the work has been registered with your Local Authority Building Control
You will almost certainly have to produce this certificate at a later date, so when it arrives, please keep it in a safe and secure place.
